First Aid classes for Babysitters, For youth aged 11 to 15
MODE OF INSTRUCTION: Traditional Instructor-Led (In-class)
COST: $95.00
DURATION: 7.5 Hours (1 Day)
SCHEDULE: 1 day from 9:30am to 5:00pm
ACCREDITATION: Participation certificate
PREREQUISITE: Minimum 11 years of age (or completion of Grade 5)
COURSE CONTENT:
- How to be responsible and demonstrate leadership
- How to make good decisions and manage difficult behaviours
- Information on children’s developmental stages, and specific strategies for each stage
- How to feed, diaper, dress, and play with children and babies
- How to recognize and prevent unsafe situations, make safe choices and promote safe behaviours
- First aid skills
- The business of babysitting
MATERIALS INCLUDED:
- Babysitter's Manual - will be provided in class
REQUIREMENTS:
- Successfully demonstrate skills and critical steps
- A minimum score of 75% on written knowledge evaluation
- Attend and participate in 100% of the course
CERTIFICATION: Participation certification in a Red Cross Babysitting First Aid Training
Canadian Red Cross certificates are now virtual! You will receive a permanent virtual certificate will be emailed to you after you've successfully completed the course. You will be able to view your manual and certification online at any time through your MyRedCross account.
IMPORTANT: Please bring two pens/pencils, indoor shoes, a doll or teddy bear (build-a-bear size) about the size of a new baby, PEANUT FREE lunch/snack and drinks
About this Course
Offers basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth aged 11 to 15. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families.
