When completed in British Columbia, WorkSafeBC recognizes your Canadian Red Cross Emergency First Aid certificate as meeting and/or exceeding the training requirements for Occupational First Aid (OFA) level 2. Your SFA certificate will satisfy WorkSafeBC’s requirements for OFA Level 2 First Aid Attendant qualifications at any workplace where WorkSafeBC has jurisdiction for on-site workplace first aid requirements.
WorkSafe BC’s specific requirements for First Aid attendant training and certification will vary with each workplace, depending on work site hazard levels, number of workers on-site, access to emergency medical services, and travel time to the nearest hospital.
After completing a Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid course, your certificate is nationally recognized for Worker’s Compensation Board compliance in British Columbia and Alberta, as well as other Provinces across Canada.
The Canadian Standards Association: CSA Standard Z1210–17
CSA Z1210-17 is a standardization of Workplace First Aid certifications in Canada. This standardization includes both the Training Curriculum and Certification and First Aid kit requirements for workplaces.
The Canadian Red Cross has adopted the CSA guidelines into their training program to allow for a more nationally recognized certificate as more provinces/territories adopt the CSA standards. With this adoption of standards, the Canadian Red Cross certification you will receive through Powell River First Aid will show the CSA certification listed as well.
